19 February 1982: Lucien DeBlois scored four goals and Ed Staniowski turned aside 34 shots as Winnipeg thumped Quebec in Alberta. The Jets scored three unanswered goals in the first period, despite being outshot 14-11, with DeBlois tallying his first three minutes from the end of the period to give the home team a 3-0 lead. The 24-year-old winger picked up right where he left off after the break, scoring twice in the first ten minutes of the second to complete his hat trick, become the fifth 20-goal Jet of the season, make the score 5-0, and chase Dan Bouchard from the Nordique net.
Quebec mounted some resistance in the second half of the period, as Miroslav Frycer and Marc Tardif scored in the next six minutes to pull the high-flying Nordiques within three scores, but DeBlois potted his fourth with two minutes to go in the period to almost single-handedly put the game in the bag for Winnipeg. Craig Levie (4 SOG) made it 7-2 with a slapper from the point just second before the end of the period, so that consolation prizes by Tardif and Anton Statsny in the third made little difference.
The Nords peppered the Winnipeg net with 38 shots but Staniowski was up to the challenge, turning away a number of high-caliber scoring chances on his way to second-star status. Thomas Steen had three points for the Jets, and Peter Statsny fired the puck at Staniowski seven times for Quebec. FINAL: Winnipeg 7, Quebec 4.
