Robins 5, Phillies 4: Brooklyn survived a frenetic final two innings to escape with a one-run victory in Philadelphia. The Robins held a slim 2-1 lead going into the 8th inning behind the fine pitching of Jeff Pfeffer, but the Phillies tied the game on Fred Luderus' two-out RBI single. Brooklyn answered loudly in the bottom half when the heart of their order (Tommy Griffith, Zack Wheat and Hi Myers) went single-single-home run. The lead seemed safe at 5-2 when two of the first three Phils went out in the 9th, but Gavy Cravath launched a pinch-hit homer to make it a one-run game again; Pfeffer stood firm, however, and fanned Leo Callahan for the game's final out. Griffith and Wheat had three hits apiece and Myers had three RBI. [box]

Braves 3, Giants 2: The Giants stole seven bases, but could not steal a win, as Art Nehf held them to just two runs and Boston held onto a slim early lead. Joe Riggert's League-leading 12th RBI in the 6th inning gave Boston a 3-1 lead, but New York got one back in the 7th on the strength of two singles and two stolen bases. Nehf allowed a walk and a swipe with one out in the 9th to put the potential tying run into scoring position, but fanned Heinie Zimmerman and got a routine ground ball to short from Art Fletcher to finish off the game. George Burns had two hits and three of the Giant's steals. [box]
Cardinals 2, Pirates 0: Bill Sherdel was too much for the Pirate offense and St. Louis scratched out two-out runs in the 4th and 6th to get the victory at Forbes Field. Rogers Hornsby singled, stole second and scored on Joe Schultz's base hit in the 4th, and two singles set up and RBI two-bagger by Gene Paulette in the 6th. Sherdel, after allowing back-to-back singles to start the 6th, was in control under only one out remained for Pittsburgh; a single and two walks then loaded the bases with trouble before Carson Bigbee skied one to left field to end both the rally and the game.
